Virtual Reality refers to a set of off-station/off-ship areas that represent various computer simulations, some for work, some for entertainment. Usually, you enter Virtual Reality by putting on VR goggles; different types of goggles take you to different areas. The ones labeled "arcadevr" take you to a hub area for various multiplayer games; VR pods do the same thing, and both are usually found at the Arcade. 'Det_net' VR goggles transport the user to an otherwise-inaccessible virtual beach for performing investigative duties. "Bombtest" goggles go to a explosive testing ground.
Inevitably, you'll want to leave VR. To do so, you can either press one of the prominent Leave VR buttons or kill your virtual self in some manner, which is easily done with the suicide command or just punching yourself senseless. Note that dying outside of VR or getting taken out of your pod/getting your glasses taken off will automatically log you out of VR as well.
Spooky ghosts can also join VR by clicking spawn, and clicking “Join VR”. They can also just go to the arcade. Your player experience is limited as a ghost, but they can still enjoy having fun with other players. You also don’t have to set DNR to play VR, which is a plus.
Entry Zone
When you enter Virtual Reality, you spawn in the Entry Zone. Besides being a lounge to watch the start of the Go-Kart Track races, the Entry Zone has outfits, vending machines, a couple of snacks and games, and ways to get to each other section; the Go-Kart Track and Thunderdome Court are just above it, while a room to the left has a ladder to the Critter Gauntlet, and Chessboard as well as a portal to the Murderbox.
Go-Kart Track
The Go-Kart Track is a short track which loops around the Thunderdome Court. To start, hop in a go-kart by either 1) click-dragging your character's sprite onto the go-kart's or 2) right-clicking one and clicking enter; to exit, either 1) click on the go-kart or 2) right-click the go-kart and pick exit. Try to make your way around the track quickly, taking advantage of hallmark go-kart game features; a variety of powerups, some boost arrows, and a few shortcuts.
Thunderdome Court
The Thunderdome Court is a good place to practice fighting and (in theory) play basketball. You can arm up with a variety of weapons found in lockers; although it's a game of basketball, it's more likely you'll just find yourself beating up the other team with fire, plasma orbs, swords, spears, stims, and, naturally, wrestling.
Critter Gauntlet
Take the ladder down below the Entry Zone, and you will find the Critter Gauntlet just north of you. This area throws waves of increasingly powerful critters at you - with some meds provided between some waves. How far can you get before the critters crit you?
Chessboard
Just south of the ladder is the chessboard. Hit the reset board button to the right to populate the improperly oriented how hard is "white on right" gosh board with pieces you can then move by clickdragging.
Murderbox
The murderbox, found by taking a portal in the Entry Zone, contains "executables" which, when clicked, will turn you into a werewolf, a wizard, or a wrestler - or it will give you a syndicate uplink that can buy a limited section of Syndicate Items. It also has a Syndicate Requisition Token , so you can get some sweet goodies. A second portal leads you to an empty dead-end room to test everything out in. The Murderbox is also not only a epic box to murder helpless NPCs, it’s great place to practice gear and weapons with friends, strangers, or even enemies! This place is a safe and contained area to fight and kill people, as you're not in real life. It can also be used to practice Nuclear Operative gear.
Detective's Resort
You need the special detective's goggles to go to the Detective's Resort, and for good reason - it's outfitted with a security camera TV, a security records cabinet, and the detective's treasured cigarette machine, on top of a few miscellaneous mostly beach-themed objects lying around.
The Colosseum
There used to be an area called the Colosseum (more often called the Pod Colosseum), located even farther north of the ladder in VR. It was similar to the gauntlet, but instead of fighting critters on foot, you fought them from a pod. Unlike regular pods, you would enter and leave these pods by clicking them, fire their primary weapons with C or Spacebar, their secondary weapons with E, and use Q to brake. The enemies you would fight were hostile drones, much like those you may see in the Debris Field or Trench, among other space-related critters.
Unfortunately, the Colosseum was also incredibly buggy, and was eventually removed.
