This page is under construction. The following information may be incomplete. Images needed, fleshing out of some sections |
Virtual reality is an offstation location accessed by using either VR Goggles or entering a VR Pod, both of which are usually found at the Arcade. A special set of VR Goggles, the detective's goggles, transport the user to the otherwise-inaccessible virtual resort. The regular goggles and pods, meanwhile, access the other areas.
Inevitably, you'll want to leave VR. To do so, you can either press one of the prominent Leave VR buttons or kill your virtual self in some manner, which is easily done with the suicide command or just punching yourself senseless. Note that dying outside of VR or getting taken out of your pod/getting your glasses taken off will automatically log you out of VR as well.
Entry Zone
When you enter Virtual Reality, you spawn in the Entry Zone. Besides being a lounge to watch the start of the Go-Kart Track races, the Entry Zone has outfits, vending machines, a couple of snacks and games, and ways to get to each other section; the Go-Kart Track and Thunderdome Court are just above it, while a room to the left has a ladder to the Critter Gauntlet, Pod Colosseum, and Chessboard as well as a portal to the Murderbox.
Go-Kart Track
The Go-Kart Track is a short track which loops around the Thunderdome Court. To start, hop in a go-kart by right clicking one and clicking enter; do the same but with exit to leave it. Try to make your way around the track quickly, taking advantage of hallmark go-kart game features; a variety of powerups, some boost arrows, and a few shortcuts.
Thunderdome Court
The Thunderdome Court is a good place to practice fighting and, in theory, play basketball. You can arm up with a variety of weapons found in lockers; although it's a game of basketball, it's more likely you'll just find yourself beating up the other team with fire, lasers, swords, spears, stims, and, naturally, wrestling.
Critter Gauntlet
Take the ladder down below the Entry Zone, and you will find the Critter Gauntlet just north of you. This area throws waves of increasingly powerful critters at you - with some meds provided between some waves. How far can you get before the critters crit you?
Pod Colosseum
The pod colosseum, found even farther north of the ladder, is similar to the gauntlet, but instead of fighting critters on foot, you fight them from a pod. Unlike regular pods, you get into and leave these pods by clicking them, fire a primary weapon with C or Spacebar, a secondary weapon with E, and use Q to brake. Do note that this is notoriously buggy and may not work properly! If it does work, you can look forward to fighting off hostile drones, much like those you may see in the Debris Field or Trench, among other space-related critters.
Chessboard
Just south of the ladder is the chessboard. Hit the reset board button to the right to populate the improperly oriented how hard is "white on right" gosh board with pieces you can then move by clickdragging.
Murderbox
The murderbox, found by taking a portal in the Entry Zone, contains "executables" which, when clicked, will turn you into a werewolf, a wizard, or a wrestler - or it will give you a syndicate uplink that can buy a limited section of Syndicate Items. A second portal leads you to an empty dead-end room to test everything out in.
Detective's Resort
You need the special detective's goggles to go to the Detective's Resort, and for good reason - it's outfitted with a security camera TV, a security records cabinet, and the detective's treasured cigarette machine, on top of a few miscellaneous mostly beach-themed objects lying around.
VR Dungeon
Puzzles! A whole level full of fun puzzles and mysteries to solve. It's almost like a Adventure Zone area, complete with a hall of fame commemorating past divers who successfully conquered the dungeon. (Signups to be commemorated are unfortunately closed now.) Occasionally and formerly called "Urs Dungeon", after its creator, UrsulaMajor.
To enter the VR Dungeon, you need a special pair of VR goggles, whose sprite is noticeably darker than other goggles. To find them, you need to swing by the Space/Sea Diner; there's usually a beacon for Space Pods to warp to there, and on maps set in outer space, the Mining Shuttle near/in the Mining Department takes you to the Diner. An arcade section has a safe with the goggles. One of the Bill family members might be able to help you out.
Put the "strange VR goggles" in your eyes slot, and you'll be transported to VR Dungeon! Note that putting on the goggles deletes all your equipment, so you can't bring in any external aid, and your body in the normal, non-VR-Dungeon world poofs away completely, so no one can take you out by removing your goggles (which drop onto the floor). In other words, once you go in, you can't go back out until you've solved certain puzzles. In addition, if you die in there, you die for real, i.e. you become a Ghost. Enter at your own peril. (Also, you can't put the goggles on others. It'd also be griefing if you could.)
There's a new version of VR Dungeon every couple months or so. Currently, it is on iteration 5, with the theme of "Shitty Bill Is Missing!" As you might have gathered, Shitty Bill is trapped in the dungeon, and dungeon crawlers must use the power of friendship (no, seriously, you'll need multiple people for this one) to save him! (Please ignore the fact that Shitty Bill is also still at the Diner. Don't think about it too hard how this is possible.)
Please note the puzzles of the VR Dungeon are considered secret content. You can discuss the puzzles and your ideas on how to solve them with people but only if 1)they consent to it and 2)it's done over private channels, e.g. Discord direct messages.
