Inevitably, most engineers learn how to get way more power than necessary out of the engine than is actually needed. When you have such an excess, the best use is to direct it here - into the Power Transmission Laser.
Found in one of the most north-center rooms in the station - just left of the north airbridge and up a bit - this big machine can be configured much like a SMES, but instead of giving out power to the station, it fires it as a big laser. The more power the laser gets, the more money pours into engineers' accounts.

Did you know that some people pay good money to have a giant laser beam shot at them? It's true! If the Nuclear Generator and Catalytic Generator are producing more power than needed, the Engineering crew might decide to route excess electricity into this power transmission laser (or PTL), which converts electricity into cash money. The PTL unit itself is housed in this distressingly cramped room called Power Transmission Laser, located roughly southeast of Engineering, with the Warrens and the bulkhead/breach hull wedged between them.
Besides the power transmission laser itself, this room also contains a Engine Output Monitoring computer, allowing you (as a Engineer or Chief Engineer, presumably) to adjust PTL output with generator output and station power consumption. The table next to it has a station-bounced radio for emergencies and a little die, in case you get bored or want RNGesus to decide how much power the PTL should output. The "Transmission Laser Confinement" switch above said table controls the "Laser Confinement Door" shutters in front of the PTL, so you can block the beam in case someone needs to pass by.

There is no vent. Why not buy one with the money made from shooting someone with a giant laser?
The APC for this room is on the west wall (or northwest corner, if you'd like), near the fire alarm and "Transmission Laser Confinement" switch.
The power is supplied via a red cable that under the entrance. However, the power for the power transmission laser and Engine Output Monitoring computer is supplied via a separate blue wire that also goes under the door, running directly from the Nuclear Generator.
