WerewolfV2-64x68.png

Werewolves (sometimes abbreviated to WW) are savage creatures that can shapeshift between a human form and a humanoid wolf form cursed with a insatiable hunger for fresh human flesh--specifically yours. Originally admin antagonist oddities created for who knows what, these Mixed (Action)- and random-event-exclusive beasts went through several iterations before finally becoming the ferocious melee powerhouses they now are. Similar to changelings, werewolves spawn with an objective to feed on a certain amount of crew members, usually 10, sometimes less depending on the population.

Abilities

So, you somehow ended up as a werewolf? Great! As a space-borne lycanthrope, you have access to all these awesome powers:

Icon Name Cooldown (default) While stunned / cuffed? Description
WerewolfTransformIcon.png Transform 90 seconds Yes Switch between your human and werewolf form. While you can shiftshape only every minute-and-half or so, the transformation itself takes 5-10 seconds. During this time, you must be standing still and must not being performing any other actions, lest you interrupt the transformation. Using this ability clears any stuns, regrows lost limbs, extinguishes you if you're on fire, clears away any radiation (including neutron radiation), and removes any implants, shrapnel, bullets or similar embedded into you.
WerewolfMaulIcon.png Maul victim 30 seconds No Tear apart and eat chunks of an adjacent corpse or immobile (e.g. unconscious, knocked down, asleep) victim for sustenance. If you dine on them for at least 20 seconds, you permanently increase your max stamina and stamina regen, reduce ability cooldowns, gain points for your objective, fill your Ravenous Hunger motive (if you're on the Roleplay servers), and, depending on the species and condition of the body, may also heal some or all of your BRUTE and BURN. The entire feast lasts around 30 seconds, and if you or the victim moves, the feast is interrupted, though you can still get the bonuses and points.

Corpses can be eaten, but not rotten ones or ones with more than 15 units of formaldehyde. Bodies with less than -150% HP and cluwnes restore less health and give smaller stamina boosts, with the second actually causing 5 TOX. You cannot eat NPCs, e.g. Shitty Bill and other Diner NPCs, NPC monkeys, including ones turned into humans via the GeneTek (even if you somehow eat one, you get no points). Player-controlled monkeys still give same bonuses as regular humans, with same restrictions on rotten and low-health corpses. Hunters, shamblers, and, disturbingly, other werewolves restore more usual. Clowns...do interesting things. It is possible to maul someone multiple times, but there are no bonuses, and it does not count towards feedings objective.

Feasting also throws various organs out of the victim, handy since you can eat them to heal. It cannot remove a brain, skull, or heart, but it can rip out lungs and livers.
WerewolfTaintedBiteIcon.png Tainted Bite 200 seconds Yes When this ability is activated, all of the reagents in your bloodstream are instantly cleared out and placed in a temporary saliva reservoir. For about 30 seconds, every time you attack, whether it's through an ability or just a regular attack, you transfer about 5 units from this reservoir into the victim.
WerewolfHowlIcon.png Defensive Howl 200 seconds Yes Howl at, presumably, the Ice Moon, for roughly 15 seconds. Activation of this ability will completely extinguish yourself if you're on fire. During this time you will have a high chance to dodge melee attacks.
WerewolfPounceIcon.png Pounce 10 seconds No Jump at someone (or something) up to 10 tiles away in the direction you are facing, attacking anybody in your path and knocking them down onto the floor. Great for getting into melee range or escaping a dangerous situation!
WerewolfThrowIcon.png Throw 30 seconds No Grab a target, spin them around, and throw them across the room, like a Wrestler's Throw. Unlike a Wrestler Throw, this does not require an aggressive grab or any grab at all. Cannot be used in human form.
WerewolfThrashIcon.png Thrash 40 seconds Stunned: Yes

Cuffed: No

Spin around, flailing your arms at all adjacent targets, knocking them down for a good while and dealing moderate damage. Useful if you're downed and/or getting mobbed.

Werewolf Form

In addition, werewolf form itself has several useful perks:

  • You're harder to kill
    • Thanks to your Lupine Regeneration, you heal 2 BRUTE and 2 BURN every few seconds and have a 2% chance to regrow limbs.
    • You have +50 maximum health. You're literally a man and a half.
    • Eating certain organs restore a little health. The more vital, the better. Most organs heal 5 BRUTE and 5 BURN, but brains (and chests if you can somehow find one) heal 15 BRUTE and 15 BURN, hearts and severed heads 10 BRUTE and 10 BURN, and butts 3 BRUTE and 3 BURN. Cyberorgans, however, will hurt you, especially cyberbutts.
  • You're harder to pin down
    • Werewolf form grants +40 Maximum Stamina and +9 Stamina Regeneration, a significant boost. Since you're going to be attacking in melee often and thus depleting Stamina a lot, this is a huge boon. On top of allowing you to attack in melee more, these buffs also let you sprint more often and for longer, and it gives you an extra buffer against stun projectiles. And remember, this is before all the Stamina increases you get from eating people.
    • You have 40% stun resistance, i.e. certain stuns last only 60% as long. Not exactly immune to stuns, but still useful. You could for example weaponize a segway!
    • Shackles and regular, non-silver handcuffs are not a problem, since you can rip them apart instantly.
      • Transformation from man to wolf also destroys them and can be done when stunned, cancelling out all effects to boot. A nasty surprise for security provided they aren't aware of your true nature yet.
  • You're a better hunter
    • 100% cold resistance, thanks to all that floof. That means you have an advantage when pursuing people through areas that have been bombed and are exposed to the outside. Still have to breathe, though.
    • Almost every door can be pried open, breaking it permanently as if emagged. You can also instantly smash through windows and grilles.
      • Wearing an ID card overrides this ability if you could open the door in question normally.
    • You can spot people behind walls and in the darkness and see through cloaks.
  • You're pretty dang scary
    • Pressing CTRL+B plays an extra-gross, extra-savage-sounding burp.
    • Pressing CTRL+S makes you howl. Strike fear in men's hearts, and embrace your inner furry wolf--because you really are one!
    • Werewolves are more scary than cuddly, so if someone tries to pet you like a dog by clicking on you with Help intent, you have a 50% chance to snap at them and involuntary attack them. The effects are same as if you attacked them on Harm.

Intents

In particular, your unarmed attacks are much more powerful, depending on certain intents:

  • If you click on someone while on Grab intent, you immediately have an aggressive level hold, so you can throw your victim around or suplex them with one click.
  • With Disarm, you stun and knock them down for a short amount of time.
  • Both Disarm and Harm intent attacks can make the victim bleed.

The Harm intent in particular has several applications:

  • While you can throw punches powerful enough to propel your victim across the room, it's a somewhat dicey proposition. If somebody charges you with a melee weapon, better use Disarm for an guaranteed knockdown.
  • Bashing the victim is a good way to wear down their health and ability to fight back, but be careful not to rough them up too badly! Mangled bodies don't provide as much nourishment.
  • Like shambling abominations, you can deal a lot of damage to cyborgs and critters by punching them. Werewolves are not human, so this is a useful power to have.

Restrictions

  • Werewolves are warded off by aconite (aka wolfsbane) flowers.
    • If you try to pick up aconite, you take 10 BURN, and touching it hurts you so much that it knocks you down for about 2 seconds. If you somehow manage to pick it up anyways and try to attack someone with it, you just drop it.
    • If you try to drag an aconite flower away, you take 10 TOX.
    • If you try to move onto a tile with aconite, or if someone pulls you or throws you over a tile with it, you get 10 BURN and are knocked down for about 2 seconds. How much aconite there is doesn't matter. This has a cooldown that lasts as long as the stun duration, so you can't get stunlocked by someone repeatedly dragging over aconite.
    • If you get smacked with an aconite flower, you suffer 5-10 TOX and have a 50% chance to lose 40 Stamina, which is not an insignificant amount.
    • If someone throws aconite, and you get hit by it, you get knocked down for several seconds.
  • Werewolves are also weak to silver, specifically in the form of silver bullets and silvercuffs.
    • Unlike with regular handcuffs, you cannot use your sheer brute force to break out of silver handcuffs. Instead, you have to stop, resist (click the Resist button on the bottom part of your HUD, press Z if you're on Goon WASD, or press C if you're on /tg/-style WASD), and wait half a minute or so to get out.
    • Being shot with silver bullets deals extra BURN and organ damage on top of the bullet's regular BRUTE, and having them lodged in you deals extra TOX and BURN and makes you lose Stamina. Though you can regenerate the BURN somewhat, you cannot regen the continual TOX, which may force you to temporarily revert back to human form to remove the bullets or simply stop the damage.
  • Werewolves can't wear jumpsuits, exosuits or shoes. They still move at normal running speed regardless.
  • Dealing with gun-wielding opponents is a challenge due to the complete lack of ranged attacks. Guardbuddies and Securitrons tend to hate you as well.
  • Werewolves are just as vulnerable to extreme temperatures, suffocation or poisons as everybody else.
  • They have protanopia (that's colorblindness to red and green partially). It's reinforced, so it can't be removed with mutadone.
  • Werewolves are horribly hungry. On the Roleplay servers, the Hunger motive is replaced by one called "Ravenous Hunger", in both human and werewolf form. It depletes half as slowly, but it can only be restored using the Maul victim ability (i.e. you have to eat people to satiate your appetite). The amount of hunger restored is equal to five times the amount of healing received, which is in turn based on the amount of damage you did with the ability.

Strategy

As you can probably tell, werewolf is a very rampage-focused antagonist. Every antag is geared in some way for fighting, but werewolf's traits and abilities are all entirely centered on combat; each one either gives you an advantage in fight or counters a common fighting style or tactic. That doesn't mean it's completely impossible to hold gimmicks or do other playstyles, like bombings or sabotage, as a werewolf. You just have to put in some extra effort and creativity.

That said, don't overestimate your powers. Sure, you can quickly overpower and maul an opponent in melee, but you still have some trouble with mobs and even small groups. Though Pounce helps you close the gap and Defensive Howl lets you dodge bullets, you should still be careful with ranged users. A barrage of lasers/lethal bullets can still end your day, especially if someone ambushes you or shoots you while you're in the middle of a fight. Furthermore, the wolf-like form is completely useless for stealth and will attract the attention of everybody in no time.

Unless you're really robust, it's not a good idea to rampage as soon as you perform. In fact, overconfident werewolves who rampage near roundstart often get slaughtered less than twenty minutes later, usually by a team of Staff Assistants with extinguishers or a crackshot Detective with plain ol' nonsilver bullets. As with rampages in general, it's best to delay your murder spree a bit to make preparations. In your case, try to avoid the frequented areas of the station and prey on crew members one at a time. If you can, murder any Botanists growing aconite and any particularly robust people before they have a chance to ready themselves.

A situational strategy is to pretend to be passive temporarily, as most crewmates will be less apprehensive to a Werewolf making Scooby Doo quotes and using the Mime as a chew toy than a Werewolf going on a screaming rampage and eating crewmembers alive. Once you feel the crew is used to your presence, you can use that to your advantage and get into close proximity to players for an easy kill if they are under the impression that you are doing a friendly gimmick, although you shouldn't let your own guard down as some paranoid or suspicious players might still attack you no matter your behavior, and some players may try to hunt you for being a werewolf in the first place.
