Research Assistant is a low-ranking job tasked with helping the Scientists and other Research personnel. In terms of access, they're essentially a hybrid of Staff Assistant and Scientist. They can enter most of the facilities in the Research Sector, except for Toxins Storage, and unlike regular Scientists, they start with access to the maintenance tunnels and Tech Storage. If you don't mind the risk of dying a horrific death due to SCIENCE!, this job is otherwise fairly laid-back, making it a decent role for newbies.

A Brief History of Labradors

Research Assistants appeared very early in Space Station 13's history. They were one of the first jobs Exadv1, SS13's original creator, added to the game, making them older than Devstation. They never got to see Devstation though; Research Assistant and the other department-specific assistant jobs were merged into one single "Assistant" job on July 4th 2008,

Department-specific assistants were briefly revived in 2012, but only Technical Assistant and Medical Assistant came back. On September 24th, 2021, the job was re-added as a latejoin role, along with the Medical Assistant, Technical Assistant, and Head Surgeon.

Crew Objectives

Strangely enough, the Research Assistant is the only job to not get any crew objectives, unlike all other assistants.
