Kudzupeople are animate, potentially sentient creatures spawned from corpses left in a Kudzu vine infestation. If you're fortunate or unfortunate enough (depending on view) to expire amidst the vines, with time you can return to the game as a kudzuperson. This will produce the following popup to the right with your rules and basic guidelines of what you can do. Give it a read, then get to growing!

The vines must grow

As a kudzuperson, you naturally can traverse your own kudzu vines, even the thickest with far more ease than normal humans. It also provides slow healing. The reverse is true if you dare to leave the vines, removing this benefit and eventually beginning to cause you to dry up, slow down and take damage from a lack of nutrients provided by the vine. You'll also have an enhanced vision in the kudzu itself, letting you see further and more clearly.

Abilities

This is your nutrients meter, it'll slowly recharge over time to 100 points while standing on tiles infested with kudzu. As above, stepping away from kudzu tiles will begin to rapidly decay your nutrient points. You can use your various abilities with your nutrient points listed below:

Icon Name Cooldown time Nutrient Cost Description
Guide Growth 0 seconds 2 Allows Kudzupeople to place some traversable flowering vines on a tile, preventing kudzu from growing there. Very useful if you want to limit your vine-world to a specific room or area by blocking exits.
Growth 15 seconds 25 The Kudzu must grow, help it by clicking kudzuless tiles to help it grow. You can also click on kudzu-grown and normal hydroponics trays to fill them with some fresh nutrients.
Manipulate Seed 60 seconds 40 Let life bring life: You can produce seeds for growing in hydroponics trays out of nothing but the Kudzu nutrients. If you hold a seed in your active hand, you can also use this ability to heal it, or manipulate its various botany factors such as yield or growth rate.
Healing Touch 30 seconds 40 Never underestimate the healing power of plants. You may heal yourself of general damage types, organ damage and brain damage, and even cause implants fall out from you. You can also use it to heal your fellow Kudzuperson, or other visitors. Healing yourself is less effective than healing others.

Stealth 10 seconds 1 By secreting a thin sheen of nutrients, you become a little harder to see. However factoring in the dense kudzu and dark conditions, you can be rather hard to see. Toggleable.
Speak Kudzu 0 seconds 0 Speak on the lovely olive-drab Kudzu channel to your fellow pod people! Share gardening tips. The vine must grow.
Use vine 0 seconds 0 Deploy a vine that fills one of your hands. Being inherently non-violent under most circumstances, Kudzupeople will only waggle threateningly at assailants with harm intent on. The vine allows you (depending on intent) to push people violently away from yourself or attack to mostly stamina damage people. It can be retracted by clicking the vine again.

Tips

  • Click on a kudzu tile, it'll open up a small menu that lets you create either a kudzu-variant of a hyroponics tray, or a plantmaster Useful for growing your own plants.
  • While you retain your backpack and headset if you had them, you don't need or can even wear most other items. This includes masks or cigarettes (which would be a bit cannibalistic) However, this isn't so much of a problem as:
  • You do not need to breathe, and while you'll feel the cold of space, you can survive it without protection far better than the more meaty crew.
  • While you have the vine for interacting with others, you can still use your hands to hold tools and interact with machines just fine.

Conclusion

It's a special job that mostly will only come after the death of your antagonist or crewmember or your own misadventure. It's a chance to potentially have a peaceful return, see your own funeral, and watch on the rest of the round.
