The Head Surgeon is a Head of Staff who manages the surgical parts of Medbay. They are meant to be subservient to the Medical Director, who manages general doctoring and Genetics, while the Head Surgeon can oversee surgeries and robotic augmentations. The job existed from the earlier days of Goonstation, but was eventually removed because it was mostly useless. Afterwards, the Research Director temporarily managed the medical section of the ship before several features of Doctoring changed and the Medical Director took over.
The Return of Head Surgeon
The Head Surgeon job was brought back as a possible gimmick role in early 2019. They spawned with their favorite scalpel & circular saw combo, a set of scrubs instead of a crisp suit, and the same access as the Medical Director, with less authority and even less respect than before. Months later, it was retired again, presumably for still being just as useless as in the past.
