Everyone on the station has a job, that comes with an ID and a specific amount of access to various parts of the station. This page will help you figure out what your job assignment actually means.
Start off with some Civilian jobs like the Assistant if you're new. Then once you think you know enough, make your way down the list to the more advanced jobs such as Scientists and Engineers.
