Canada Day
Since the server is located in Canada, Goonstation naturally celebrates Canada Day, which occurs on July 1. During this holiday, there is a 30% chance that question marks will be replaced with "Eh?", in celebration of the peculiar verbal cue of the Great White North. Simple, eh?
Autumn
During September, October, and November, the servers celebrate the autumn/fall season. (Remember, the server's in the Northern Hemisphere.) Plants and people alike are adorned with red, orange, and yellow during these three months. The changes here are primarily aesthetic-related.
- The clothing booth now sells two autumn-themed hats, the autumn tree hat and the leaf wreath, and two autumn-themed outer-wear items, the autumn cape and the autumn jacket.
- The Clown gets a fall-themed costume, located inside the crate of outfits in their personal quarters. This autumnal ensemble includes an autumnal clown hat, autumn clown wig and mask, autumn clown suit, and autumn clown shoes.
- Dolly gets "Fally". She gets her own seasonal outfit!
- Grass tiles turn a nice orange-brown. In some places, they may even be covered in autumn leaves. (Sadly, they don't pleasantly crinkle with each step.)
- The leaves change colors! Hydroponics plants are unaffected, but other plants on the station/ship take on warmer hues, including:
- Trees
- Shrubs
- House plants
- Trees
Spooktober
Things get !!! SPOOKY !!! during the month of October—or should it be called Spooktober? In any case, the entire station/ship gets in the Halloween spirit.
- Several Spooktober jobs appear, for the enjoyment of those joining after roundstart.
- Ghosts can collect spooky spookpoints by doing spooky ghost things and spend them on various spooky Spooktober buttons.
- The clothing booth sells several costume hats, namely: an axe headband, elephant hats (in blue, gold, green, and pink), a giraffe hat, mushroom caps (in red, indigo, inky, and shittake varieties), a minotaur mask, a rhino beetle helm, and a stag beetle helm. It also sells a new costume tengu mask.
- Heisenbee, the Research Director's pet space bee, puts on a cute little halloween mask.
- Showerhead have a 15% chance to contain BLOOD! Now that's scary.
- The Quartermasters can now order Spooky Crates. What makes them spooky? They contain lots of goodybags, filled with candy, so you'll be really scared of your dentist bill after you eat some.
- You may find that people have skeletons in their closet. Literally. During this season, your station/ship may randomly encounter Closet Skeletons.
Winter
The station/ship gets snowy when winter comes. Since the server is in the Northern Hemisphere, the winter season goes from the start of December through January to the end of February.
- Snow appears on grass tiles. You can even click them to gather snowballs—time for snowball fights!
- As with autumn, the Clown gets a winter-themed costume that makes them resemble a Christmas-themed jester. Instead of being starting equipment for the Clown, it appears in their crate of alternate outfits in their personal quarters. The set includes a winter clown's hat, a winter clown wig and mask, a winter clown suit, and winter clown's shoes.
- Puffer jackets appear in the Engineering Apparel, Medical Apparel, Research Apparel, and Security Apparel machines and the equipment lockers of the Botanists, Janitors, and Ranchers.
Spacemas
Ho, ho, ho, it's Spacemastime! During December specifically, the game enters Spacemas mode. It's more than a mere change of scenery; there are a couple of jobs and roles that appear only during Spacemas, and they have more to them than "weirdo in a funny outfit".
- Certain actions can raise or lower Holiday Cheer.
- At high Cheer levels, Santa Claus appears, bringing gifts, good food, and general good tidings to all.
- At low Cheer levels, Krampus can spawn. No, it's not some sort of demon who punishes those on the naughty list. It's a strange cube that's sentient enough to hate the holidays and desire nothing more than to make the crew's life a living hell...despite not having arms or legs.
- One of your fellow crew members may in fact be a Grinch, a new antagonist type exclusive to this season. Grinches hate the holidays with a passion and will stop at nothing to ruin people's festivities. Beware their deathtouch ability, and be careful of what you eat and drink, and the Grinch might have poisoned it.
- Spacemas decorations appear all over the station/ship. There's holly, garland, wreaths—just about everything that has Christmas carol devoted to it. Most of these are purely for seasonal flair, but some of these are actually interactive.
- There's a public Spacemas stocking that you can click on to get a random gift. It's mostly just toys and funny costumes. Beware: a Grinch might have booby-trapped it!
- A huge Spacemas tree spawns in a public area. You can design custom ornaments for it and vote on others. Keep the Grinch away, or they'll burn it all down.
- The quartermaster(s) can order Holiday Supplies crates.
- Gear preparations closets spawn with spaceproof santa suits and santa hats instead of red space suits, allowing Nuclear Operatives to dress as Santa. They even get to "deliver" an absolutely, positively, 100% real present, and not just a poorly-wrapped nuclear bomb.
- You can make Spacemas Spirit without the game making fun of you for doing something out-of-season.
