Rules Regarding Races

Racism is terrible. Whether it's serious or tongue-in-cheek/ironic, role-played in-character or espoused out-of-character, done well or done poorly, it doesn't belong on Goonstation. Slurs don't belong either, in any context. That includes slurs against fictional races. End of story.

You may have heard that in some places, the rules allow non-humans can be killed for little to no reason. Goonstation's rules do not. Vast majority of races are protected by Grief rules, so you can't simply kill them for being non-human or for no reason at all.

List of Races

Humans

Jobclown.png Ass64.png

Bipedal mostly hairless apes who come in many colors and one of the only races with access to the suite of hair styles available through the Barber and in Character Preferences. Humans are the default race, and thus the most ubiquitous, and all races usually are mechanically and cosmetically like humans unless otherwise noted.

Monkeys

Dwarves

Cowpeople

Lizardpeople

Skeletons

Roachpeople

Amphibians

Hoppy frog-people that can eat almost anything and make strange sounds. They're adept in swimming, and their skin helps protect them from blunt force but burns rather easily. There is a "Shelter Amphibian" variant with an...interesting facial expression better seen than explained.

  • Occurrence: Tourists, Diplomats, and Merchants can occasionally spawn as them. The Shelter Amphibian is the result of drinking sheltergrog.
  • Human by Default under Silicon Laws?: No.
  • Cosmetic Differences:
    • Has "croaks" instead of "says".
    • Extends their r's into rrr's.
    • Spawns with Frontal Gyrus Alteration C (aka, the chavish accent) AND Frontal Gyrus Alteration Type-O (aka, vowelitis). In short, wanton murder of vowels.
    • Gets a unique "awful noise" sound clip for screaming, howling, and laughing and another unique "croak" clip for burping, farting, and gasping.
    • No options for hair.
  • Gameplay Differences:
    • Can breathe underwater and in fluids.
    • Can swim through water and wade through fluids without any slowdown.
    • Less vulnerable to BRUTE.
    • More vulnerable to BURN.
    • Spawns with matter eater, an ability that lets them eat items they can hold that are normally not edible, and jumpy, an ability that lets them hop.

Squidpeople

Blobpeople

Martians

Bulbous tentacled creatures famous for deploying strange organic technology and claiming they're not actually from Mars.

  • Occurrence: Tourists, Diplomats, and Merchants can occasionally spawn as them.
  • Human by Default under Silicon Laws?: No.
  • Cosmetic Differences:
    • Speak "Martian", which only other player Martian mobs can understand. They cannot understand words said by NPC Martians critters, like those in certain derelicts.
    • No options for hair.
  • Gameplay Differences: Can only wear back items, glasses/goggles, and gloves.
