It's the sprite for 40mm HE shells, ammo for the riot launcher and Rigil grenade launcher. The 40mm HE pod-seekers also (currently) share the same sprite. Both make things go boom boom.
32x32 means it's 32 pixels tall by 32 pixels wide. Good in a bullet list, especially with other 32x32 sprites.
New sprite by "MatheusIsNotAvailable". The basic goal of this new sprite is further differentiation from the shotgun ammo, because the previous sprite looked a lot like the shotgun ammo boxes, and that caused a fair bit of confusion. Everything is bigger: the icon on the box, the box itself, the rounds. Moreover, it has a single blue stripe, in contrast with the also resprited shotgun ammo boxes' two stripes, and the ridges and other "rugged" elements are more prominent..
