Damage is inflicted upon entities in the game world from various sources, and is split into four categories - Brute, Toxic, Fire, and Suffocation. There is also Brain Damage, which works differently from the others. Humans have a scale that runs from -100% to 100% which counts all damage taken(other than Brain damage) - using a Health Analyzer on someone will display their condition within this system. Once a human falls below 0 health, they will enter critical condition. Once in critical condition, they will begin to take brain damage and develop serious problems such as Shock and Cardiac Arrest which will make it difficult for them to move and act and speed up the rate at which they take brain damage. Once they take a certain amount of brain damage, they will die. Certain bodily processes, such as the automatic healing of minor burn damage over time, will continue, potentially bringing the person out of critical. Different races may react differently to various stimuli.

Brute Damage

Brute Damage is physical injury or damage inflicted upon an entity. It is one of the most common types of damage encountered, second only to suffocation.

Sources

  • Being punched, bitten or slashed
  • Being attacked with a held object
  • Being struck by a thrown object
  • Getting shot by projectile weapons
  • Explosions
  • Certain Viruses
  • Certain Reagents
  • Certain genetic disabilities

Remedies

Toxic Damage

Toxic damage relates to poison, hazardous chemicals, disease, and so forth. Mechanical beings are immune to this kind of damage.

Sources

  • Breathing plasma gas (Aliens are immune to this)
  • Radiation
  • Certain chemicals
  • Certain viruses

Remedies

  • Charcoal(Humans)
  • Certain kinds of food or drink (Humans, Monkeys)

Burn Damage

Burn damage relates to various kinds of burns, but also occurs from exposure to extreme cold.

Sources

  • Fire
  • Acid
  • Electrical shocks
  • Bomb explosions
  • Being struck with certain items (most notably Welders)
  • Being shot with an energy weapon
  • Exposure to extremely high or low temperatures

Remedies

Suffocation Damage

Suffocation damage is caused by things that need to breathe being unable to do so. It heals on its own if they return to an oxygenated area. Mechanical beings require electricity and will suffocate if they are without it. Changelings are immune to suffocation.

Sources

  • Lack of air
  • Breathing bad gases
  • Cessation of breathing (0 health or lower, will not heal on its own)
  • Certain chemicals and chemical fumes

Remedies

  • Returning to an oxygenated area
  • CPR
  • Salbutamol (Humans)
  • Perfluorodecalin (Prevents the user from taking suffocation damage but will not actually heal damage already taken)

Brain Damage

Brain damage is typically caused when other types of damage force a person into critical condition. Brain damage is the only type of damage that will kill a human or monkey. Health Analyzers will not give you an exact value for brain damage, but will give you a message depending on how much brain damage the patient has. No message means no damage. Once a patient begins taking brain damage the messages go: Concussion, Retardation, Braindeath in order of severity. Having brain damage also makes it difficult to do certain tasks, such as use computers and health analyzers and open doors.

Sources

  • Head Injuries
  • Untreated Critical Condition
  • Certain viruses
  • Certain Chemicals (Such as Neurotoxin and Haloperidol)

Remedies

  • Mannitol(heals brain damage)
  • Epinephrine(brings patient out of crit, preventing further damage)
  • Calomel(removes some brain damaging reagents from the bloodstream)
  • Atropine(helps critical patients and is the only antidote to Sarin gas, which is an extremely powerful brain damaging reagent)
