Page clean-up

The rules page seems to need a clean-up. Obviously this is one of the most important pages in the wiki, so it can't have any important content cut out. I've already started by removing some redundancy about metagaming. --Conor12 (talk) 07:49, 9 May 2014 (CDT)

It's a god damn mess, alright. An unreadable, poorly-formatted abomination. I could try to implement some improvements after I'm done with the backlog of my projects, but I honestly wouldn't feel comfortable doing so. This is indeed a very important page, and I sort of lack authority to mess with stuff here, like deciding what could be omitted during a rewrite. --Convair880 (talk) 03:18, 10 May 2014 (CDT)

Bans from other servers being used in admin unban appeals

Admins do occasionally use bans from non-goonstation servers when determining unban appeals.

http://forum.ss13.co/viewtopic.php?p=64008#p64008

Perhaps something should be done to clarify where that stands with Rule 4.2 --Atomic1fire (talk) 12:34, 14 August 2015 (CDT)

Taken care of. --Convair880 (talk) 12:38, 15 August 2015 (CDT)

Couple of anti-grief things

I was told that this was where to suggest touch-ups to the Rules, so here I am. These are things that should be common knowledge, yet I've still encountered them, so I'm wondering if they should be displayed here.

To be put under Don't grief:

  • You can ignore or heal antagonists if you so choose. You can not knowingly supply them with a means to do damage, as this counts as harming the crew/station as a non-antag!
    • Note that the line between harm and non-harm can be a bit muddled depending on if the antag is running a gimmick or not. If you're concerned/confused about said gimmick, you should ask in mentorhelp or adminhelp about how to proceed.
    • If the antag is threatening you with death, and says he'll let you live in exchange for something you know will end badly for the station, do not give in; this is still considered griefing! Either let him kill you, or lie like a rug and then blow him off the first chance you get, but do not actually help him under any circumstances. Consider adminhelping these situations as well so the then-antag is yelled at not to do these things.
  • For god's sake, if you're a mindslave waiting for an order from your master, this does not mean you're free to kill your master before he issues an order. This is griefing and metagaming to the nth degree and is absolutely shit. The whole point of being stunned when mindslaved is to give you time to realize, "Hey, maybe I shouldn't kill this guy!"

To be put under Guidelines for mindslaves:

(continued after the secret chem recipe thing)

    • If a mindslaving antag tries to lock you into a situation where he's forcing you to actually give him secret recipes, then he is being shit. Adminhelp it. --Sl the pyro (talk) 08:39, 20 June 2014 (EST)

Thanks, it has been added to our internal discussion thread along with the rest of the suggestions. --Convair880 (talk) 01:13, 22 June 2014 (CDT)

Some Clarity on Miscreants

Miscreants are this weird half traitor role that really push the limits of what is and what isn't appropriate for a player to do. Heck one of their goals is to heckle a player so bad they get killed. can anyone give some insight to the appropriate bounds of miscreant behavior? Comatosephoenix (talk) 06:37, 12 October 2014 (CDT)

Didn't see this until now, sorry, but miscreants are just normal guys with goofy crew objectives - when you spawn as one, you're explicitly told not to commit traitorous acts. You could totally be a shoe-stealing jerk or whatever either way, as long as you don't ruin people's rounds on purpose, kill, wreck the station etc. The boundaries for ordinary crew members and miscreants are the same, basically. --Convair880 (talk) 09:39, 30 October 2014 (CDT)

Braindeads and Lagging

There are rules to not grief/kill/rob braindeads as a non-traitor and to not intentionally lag the server to hell, yet neither of these rules seem to be on the actual rules page. For the sake of clarification, this should be fixed. --Baneofgiygas (talk) 07:07, 5 March 2015 (CST)

I can suggest it in admin chat. --Convair880 (talk) 04:27, 6 March 2015 (CST)

Staying Logged In after you Adminhelp

I've noticed a few admins get rather antsy about players logging out after firing off adminhelps, putting them in the same league as "player not responding to/avoiding admin messages" and thus getting implicated as the violator as a result, even when their reason for logging out was benign. After looking through some ban appeal threads and checking back here, I have noticed that this is not mentioned in the rules anywhere and probably should be.
Case and point: myself. I had a recent issue where I adminhelped a potential shitter, then got implicated as a shitter myself for logging out so fast (it was to go make food, and the issue in question was actually a very ill-timed chat bug which made both me and the reported player look like the violator in each other's eyes). It was resolved without incident and I apologized to both the admin and the other player, but the admin was pretty peeved that I didn't stick around after adminhelping, and until this happened I didn't know it was such a big deal. To see no mention of it in the official Rules is a bit jarring. --SL the Pyro (talk) 07:08, 25 July 2015 (EST)

That's news to me. Certain admins might get a little annoyed if they respond to an ahelp only to discover the guy isn't around anymore, but the scenario you describe certainly isn't standard practice to my knowledge. --Convair880 (talk) 04:18, 26 July 2015 (CDT)

IRC rules

We need to nail this shit down because currently neither the players nor the admins have ANY fucking clue what is and isn't okay. This is a WIP version of IRC rules, but:

  1. NO IC IN OOC. Don't talk about the current round in IRC.
  2. Be respectful of the IRC network. Basically don't break Synirc's rules. Come on.
  3. Be respectful of the IRC admins. An exhaustive list of every situation where someone with an @ might be grumping at you is impossible and disingenuous, so if an admin is grumping at you and asking you to stop talking in a given fashion or about a given topic, knock it off. These rules are intended to be more of an overview than a complete list of statutes.
  4. Be respectful of the game server operators. Don't discuss exactly how to exploit game mechanics or get around our security systems - if you have a bug to report, there are other venues. Basically don't teach people to cheat.
  5. Be respectful of others. You will not be banned from the channel for expressing opinions, so long as you are able to express those opinions in a respectful fashion: Don't use slurs, racial or otherwise, even ironically. Don't attack people for their opinions.
  6. Be respectful of the channel. Some conversation topics (including but not limited to current politics, racial tensions, religious freedom) are extremely volatile and controversial by their very nature, so if an admin requests that a conversation not take place in the channel, take it elsewhere. You're always free to make a new channel or carry on the conversation in PM, we are neither interested nor able to police what goes on in PM or in other channels.
  7. Tread VERY CAREFULLY with trolling or 'devil's advocate' stuff. There's a fine line between 'making the conversation interesting or hilarious' and 'being a thundering butthead' and you generally only find out you've tripped over it when people are screaming at you.
  8. Don't take things too seriously. Don't expect trigger warnings, don't assume every link is going to be safe for work / school / your immortal soul (though please don't post outright porn, and tagging NWS links is Strongly Encouraged), and we kick people all the time for shiggles. (You can rejoin immediately after.)
