The old ones had poor shading and animation that were just not up to modern standards, so they got a new, modern makeover. This is what it looks like when it's on and facing north/south; it's got a few different sprites for when it's facing west, turned on, etc. 32x42 means this sprite is 32 pixels wide by 42 pixels tall. This is the resolution most vending machines sprites are stored in. Interestingly, if you look at the sprite itself and omit all the empty space, it is actually over 32 pixels tall.
