What is this?
A short table of the various brain conditions and what it might mean. Mostly for me because I regularly forget and someone asks a mentor question and I end up posting my OWN answer from like a week ago. Also anyone else who wants a quick guide. NOTE: Sometimes things get weird with brains. The code around user.mind is a hellweb of eldritch magic and if an admin starts transferring you around or some weird changeling situation happens yes people do all kinds of crazy stuff. This is general rule not sacrosanct.
| The Brain is.. | What does this mean? | What does it look like if we try and clone/borg/etc. them. |
|---|---|---|
| Warm | They're dead in ghost form and present. The best case scenario for brain status. However, This INCLUDES those who have DNR'd. | Should be cloneable and borgable. If they have DNR'd the cloner message: "Cannot clone: Subject has set DNR." will appear, brains put into a borg frame will disintegrate upon wrenching and fall apart. |
| Cold | They're dead, jim. The user mind associated with the brain has moved on somehow. Maybe they respawned as a new character or as a critter but they no longer have any ties to this brain. This brain in most situations is basically just delicious protein and prions to eat. | Cloning will show: Unable to Locate mind, borging will also fail like a DNR borging does. |
| Slimy | Unlike cold, the brain still could come back. They could simply have closed their client window or disconnected. Or they could be in a hivemind. Both things can be resolved, so this is the middle ground between warm and cold. Leaving the hive mind via "exit hivemind" won't change this. Respawning as a new character will make it cold if the changeling dies and they're still around, it'll go warm | Will act as if it can't find a mind when attempting to clone. |
Summary:
If Warm: Good to go
If Slimy: Not good to go RIGHT NOW. This may change.
If Cold: Delicious snack and not coming back, jack.
