Artifact Research is the branch of Research concerned with the identification and possible testing of dangerous, unpredictable artifacts of extraterrestrial origin.
Artifacts
An artifact is a large item of non-Nanotransen origin whose function is unknown. These artifacts are usually dug up by miners, and the station always starts with one in the Artifact Lab.

When the round starts, your research stands at nothing. In order to properly identify artifacts, you will need to perform research.
Understanding DWAINE
To perform research, you will need to log in to the terminal in the lab. With your ID card in hand, insert it into the computer. Type login to log into the system. Remove your ID, and type cd /mnt/artlab/.
