Wonky values: small maps edition

The SMES settings given for Clarion and Destiny seem unreasonably low. For instance, power monitoring computers on Destiny give the grid load as ~70kW, yet this guide suggests giving the ship only 18kW from the solars' potential ~240kW output. Clarion, meanwhile, gets only 22kW of the peak ~180kW. I can only assume there's a reason why they're listed like this, rather than as higher values - can anyone offer any clarification, or might it be advised to change the recommendations? --Avack (talk) 17:29, 7 March 2018 (GMT)

Go ahead, change them if you want. The guy I cribbed those values from said Destiny and Clarion ran fine on them, but if you think it's not the case, feel free to correct them. I trust you to get them right; with the amount of time you've spent on the RP server, I'm sure you know a lot more about Clarion and Destiny's inner workings than I do. - Studenterhue (talk) 23:58, 7 March 2018 (GMT)
I fixed up the Destiny ones to what works literally every round I've ever been a part of and had them set like this. They're not actually quite the values I use, but a good baseline and it explains the reasoning behind the numbers a bit so people can hopefully come up with their own variants. The old Destiny values were absolutely not going to work for a long round (or, more accurately, would work but not provide sufficient power without the engine SMES units chipping in). --Mordent (talk) 19:53, 8 March 2018 (GMT)
Guess who remembered he said something on the wiki? And guess whose answer to "what should the settings for Destiny be" was "whatever it was that Mordent uses"? I'll see if I can get a look at the Clarion setup myself sometime soon, but if anybody reckons they know the right settings feel free to put them in place. Thanks for your time to both of you, anyway. --Avack (talk) 00:59, 9 March 2018 (GMT)

Wonky values

Some of the info on this page does not seem correct, particularly with the SMES configs -- Sundance

Most of the stuff I added (January) was wel-tested, but the SMES have always been a weakness in my know-how. I calculated some values based on the values for Cog1 and the number of solar arrays. If you do know how to setup the SMES properly, please do update those values! -- The Grim Sleeper

I do not know what values the SMES are meant to be, I just know that the values for suggested output sounds a bit off the wall; 4W on all values bar starboard? Unless these suggested outputs are exploiting the buggy engine and are the optimum output settings. --Sundance (talk) 13:21, 6 July 2016 (GMT)

I always set both solars to 90k input, 55k output as AI. --Noah Buttes (talk) 15:52, 6 July 2016 (GMT)

Notice

As a result of the new Engine, all the old Singularity stuff no longer applies, so this is a copy of the General start-up procedure. This may not completely apply and this page should be updated when more information is available. Consider everything I just posted on the page to be potentially out of date, unless cogwerks corrected it, and as a result should be updated by someone who knows what they are doing engine wise. Also since it's a copy of an ingame document, it's rather out of line with the rest of the wiki. Atomic1fire (talk) 05:23, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

Just for future reference, don't give people the information about how to get a million megawatts on their first try, or whatever, just tell them how to set up the engine in the easiest and most basic way, and let them figure out the rest themselves. No fun in knowing literally everything about the engine before you've even touched the engine ingame. Thanks - Nerdtrous (talk)

Agreed on that. I found a quiet round and managed to get the engine up and running with just the paper note you get given and some guesswork. I've got to admit, the paper's not entirely intuitive (when it talks about 1% and 10% of maximum output, I really have no idea), and the engine control computer... well, what do the 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 settings actually do? I'd like to spend more time figuring it out though. One thing that might be worth mentioning is how to get hold of new gas tanks. I suppose the ideal situation is to not run out of them, but I can't think off the top of my head what you could do if you did. --Niars (talk) 14:05, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

There's another guide at [1], I'll leave it on the talk page rather than barfing it all up on the article page, but it seems to do a better job of explaining what the parts of the engine do without outright telling you how to get Jigawatts of power. The next post down is also good. Darth various (talk) 22:28, 3 March 2013 (UTC)

old

kinda redundant with engineering/engine page, maybe should be deleted --Mozi (talk) 17:43, 18 October 2012 (CDT)

I think it was put up in the beginning of this wiki before job pages were codified. Maybe rewrite it slightly as a "The Engineers are dead/nonexistant and shit's turning off, what to do?" guide --Archenteron (talk) 18:10, 18 October 2012 (CDT)
